On May 14, 2021 California’s Governor Newsom recommended doubling the ETP budget for the year beginning July 1, 2021 to $174 million, an increase of $92 million. The additional funding will support training opportunities for new and incumbent workers and address skill gaps in economically disadvantaged regions of California. The newly proposed funding will also include money to support funding through California community colleges to provide small businesses with new and incumbent employee training and accelerate their recovery.
The existing core ETP Program funding along with the $92 million is expected to be included in the budget to be passed by the Legislature and signed by the Governor by June 30, 2021. Details regarding implementation of this unprecedented aggregate funding for ETP will be developed in the next few weeks and months.
This development provides unprecedented opportunities for employers to bring additional and enhanced training to its California workers.
